E-Bike Shop Rotterdam: 8 Best Stores Compared (2026 Guide)

📅 Updated 12/10/2026 · 🇳🇱 Rotterdam · 12 min read

The short version

Rotterdam has every kind of e-bike shop, from Mantel’s Superstore next to De Kuip to Trek in Noord, local dealers and refurbishers. For most riders, a mid-drive city e-bike (about €1,800 to €3,000) from a dealer with its own workshop is the sweet spot; the average new e-bike sold in the Netherlands cost €2,872 in 2025. Test the bike on a bridge with the assist off, ask who services the motor, and fit two ART-2 locks on day one: Rotterdam had 4,705 reported bike thefts in 2024, third-highest of any Dutch city. If your employer offers a lease, a €2,500 e-bike can cost roughly €48 to €57 a month net.

Open sky, wind off the port and long bridge crossings are why Rotterdam runs on pedal assist.

Why an e-bike shop in Rotterdam is a different game

Rotterdam is spread out, windy and full of bridges. The wind comes straight off the port and the Erasmusbrug gives a headwind nowhere to hide, so pedal assist is the default here, and the shop behind the bike matters as much as the bike. The same rules apply as anywhere in the country: our e-bike laws guide covers the 25 km/h assist limit and what changes on a speed pedelec.

Three things separate a good Rotterdam e-bike shop from a poor one. First, the workshop: warranty work on a motor or battery normally runs through certified dealers, so a store with its own mechanics saves you a headache in year two. Second, straight talk about theft. Rotterdam recorded 4,705 reported bike thefts in 2024, behind only Amsterdam (10,810) and The Hague (4,760), according to the ANWB, and nationally CBS counted a provisional 86,950 in 2025, the fourth yearly rise in a row. Our e-bike theft guide has the full numbers. A shop that sends you home with only the built-in ring lock has sold you a problem. Third, will the brand still be serviced here in five years? VanMoof went bankrupt in July 2023 and left owners hunting for workshops; our VanMoof alternative guide covers what to do if a brand you rely on disappears. Ask who services the motor before you pay.

The best e-bike shops in Rotterdam at a glance

These eight shops pass four tests: a workshop or service route you can book, test rides you can actually take, warranty handled in store, and clear public details on address and hours. Everything below comes from each shop’s own pages and public listings, checked in October 2026, and we haven’t rated any shop’s service ourselves, so read recent reviews too. How this site earns money is explained in the affiliate disclosure. If you’re new to the country, the Amsterdam shop guide for internationals shares many of the same rules of thumb.

Mantel, Trek and Decathlon

Mantel Superstore: the everything hall

Mantel calls itself the largest bike shop in the Netherlands, with four Superstores (Arnhem, Den Bosch, Rotterdam and Utrecht). The Rotterdam store at Stadionweg 33D stocks brands including Gazelle, Cube, Trek, Batavus and Cortina, plus electric cargo, longtail and compact bikes. The indoor test track is the real draw: ride as many laps as you like in February drizzle and you know straight away whether a bike suits you. The workshop is an official Shimano Service Center, and a bike can usually be exchanged within 30 days for a fee. It’s the one room where you can compare a Gazelle, a Cube and a Trek in a single wet afternoon.

Trek Bicycle Rotterdam: the service benchmark

Trek’s Rotterdam store at Jonker Fransstraat 91–93 sells Trek, Bontrager, Rapha and Diamant bikes. It promises 24-hour service on all bike types (some e-bike models are excepted, so ask about yours), with a free loan bike if it can’t meet that, and says it will quote on an e-bike trade-in within 12 hours. It’s closed Sunday and Monday, so plan for Tuesday to Saturday.

Decathlon Coolsingel: the budget route

Decathlon’s bike shop at Coolsingel 45 is where the tightest budgets end up. Our under-€1,000 shortlist prices the Elops 900 E at €999 to €1,300 depending on frame, and the under-€1,500 guide covers the Elops LD500E at €1,499.99. Check what e-bike stock the store holds before you travel. The classic Dutch rivalry between two big city-bike names is covered in Gazelle vs Batavus.

Local dealers and specialists

Bike Totaal Boom and Fietsvoordeelshop: well-reviewed locals

Bike Totaal Boom (Jac. Dutilhweg 201) is part of the Bike Totaal chain, sells e-bikes and bakfietsen, has its own workshop and carries used bikes that are checked and made roadworthy, with warranty and an exchange guarantee (the length isn’t published, so ask). Fietsvoordeelshop (Vierhavensstraat 139, Delfshaven) scores 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot from about 490 reviews for its Rotterdam location. Both suit you if you want a dealer you can walk back into when something creaks.

Fietsenwinkel.nl: Tenways and mixed brands

Fietsenwinkel.nl’s Rotterdam store (Kleiweg 64C) is an official Tenways dealer since 2022, with free, no-obligation test rides on the brand’s lighter CGO and longer-range AGO city e-bikes. It also lists Cortina, Cube, Stromer, Qwic, Batavus and others. Its nationwide review scores are lower than those of the local independents above, so read recent Rotterdam reviews and confirm that warranty is handled in the shop before you pay a deposit.

Zwaan Bikes: rent first, buy second

Zwaan Bikes at Weena 705, a few minutes from Centraal Station, sells city bikes and e-bikes, advertises a 5-year e-bike warranty, rents bikes and repairs them by appointment only. Renting for a week is a sensible way to learn the routes and the wind before you commit.

Cargo e-bikes in Rotterdam

Rotterdam is bakfiets country: school runs in the Oude Noorden, market trips in Zuid, a weekend box of groceries. Mantel lists electric cargo, longtail and compact bikes in its Rotterdam range, and Bike Totaal Boom sells bakfietsen with its own workshop. Prices vary widely. In our cargo e-bike buyer’s guide, the Decathlon Btwin E-Three 500 longtail is the cheapest at about €2,499, the Babboe front-loaders start around €4,300 to €4,600, the Urban Arrow FamilyNext starts near €5,000 and the Tern GSD S10 sells for roughly €5,800 to €6,800. The family sweet spot is €4,900 to €6,300.

Three more notes. Insurers such as ANWB, ENRA and Kingpolis require an approved tracker once a cargo e-bike’s insured value reaches €3,500. If you buy a used Babboe, check the frame number, because the City, City-E, Mini and Mini-E models were recalled in February 2024. And if you run your own business, a cargo bike can qualify for investment deductions such as the MIA and KIA, so ask your accountant; our company e-bike scheme guide covers the self-employed route.

Second-hand and refurbished: the smart euro

Cheapassbikes (Noorderhagen 229) sells refurbished bikes, including e-bikes, with a 25-point quality check and a 30-day warranty, and it’s open every day without an appointment. Bike Totaal Boom sells used bikes with warranty and exchange guarantee, though its used e-bike stock was empty when we looked. Online refurbishers such as Upway offer a 12-month warranty on battery, motor and frame according to our guides, so compare terms before you pay.

Whichever route you take, run the same checks: enter the frame number in the free RDW stolen-bike register, get the original receipt and make sure the seller’s name matches their ID, and ask for the battery’s charge-cycle count or a dealer diagnostic. The full list is in our second-hand e-bike buying guide. Price in the battery too: a new pack costs roughly €250 to €900, as our battery cost guide shows, so a weak or five-year-old pack is a discount to demand up front.

What an e-bike costs in Rotterdam in 2026

Rotterdam follows the national market. The average new e-bike in the Netherlands cost €2,872 in 2025, up about 6% in a year, according to Bike Europe. That average is pulled up by premium and cargo bikes, and the market sorts into bands. Knowing them stops you overpaying for a badge or underbuying for a windy bridge commute. Our e-bike cost guide goes deeper; this is the shop-floor view.

Budget means a hub motor and a smaller battery: fine for flat hops, tiring into a headwind on the bridges. Mid-range is where mid-drive motors with 400 to 625 Wh batteries and a real dealer network live, and where you’ll still like the bike in year five. Premium adds big batteries, belt drives and hydraulic brakes. Speed pedelecs usually start around €3,000 and many cost far more; they count as mopeds, so they need a yellow plate, an AM moped licence, third-party insurance and a certified helmet, and they can’t use ordinary cycle paths. Our speed pedelec rules guide has the details. Then there is year one, which nobody prints on the tag:

ItemYear-one costNote
The bike (€2,200 mid-drive example)€2,200 onceOr roughly €48–57 a month net on an employer lease
Theft insurance€95–170Theft-only from about €6–9 a month; all-risk about €8–14 a month on a €2,400 bike
Second ART lock€50–125 onceOn top of the built-in ring lock
Annual service€60–135€90 is common; more for a loaded cargo bike; parts extra
Electricity€5–10A full 500 Wh charge costs well under €0.25

Year one lands around €2,410–2,640 all in. Losing the bike to theft is the only line that can double it.

Test-ride like a Rotterdammer

Mantel’s indoor track is the weatherproof option, Fietsenwinkel.nl offers free test rides on its Tenways bikes, and smaller shops often prefer a booking so the right size is ready. If a shop lets you ride real streets, take them: one pass over a bridge in the wind tells you more than ten showroom laps. Ride for at least 10 minutes, and ideally 15 to 30.

  • Pull away at a fake traffic light. Torque sensors feel like a tailwind; cadence sensors feel like a switch. You’ll live with that difference daily.
  • Ride every assist level, including off. A heavy bike with a flat battery is your puncture day.
  • Brake from full speed. Hydraulic discs should stop a heavy bike without drama.
  • Take the battery out and back in, twice. If you live upstairs with no socket in the bike store, this is your daily ritual.
  • Read the display in sunlight. Some screens vanish in July.
  • Listen over cobbles. Motor rattle and hub knock are cheaper to spot now than later.
Ask thisThe good answer
Who services this motor in Rotterdam?A named certified dealer, bookable this week, not “post it abroad”.
What does a replacement battery cost today?A specific euro figure, typically somewhere between €250 and €900. “We’d have to check” is a red flag.
Is the first service included? Many dealers include a check-in; ask what year two costs.
Can an independent workshop replace the battery later?EU rules require e-bikes placed on the market from 18 February 2027 to have batteries that an independent professional can remove and replace. Older bikes aren’t covered, and some workshops still won’t fit a battery they didn’t sell.
Is warranty handled in this store?Yes, with a stamp in your paperwork.

Service, warranty and the year-after bill

Warranty work on Bosch, Shimano or Bafang systems runs through certified dealers, so the service network is part of the product. Trek promises 24-hour service, Mantel’s workshop is an official Shimano Service Center, and Zwaan advertises a 5-year e-bike warranty. Independent workshops will happily do tyres, brakes and cables, often for less than a brand dealer.

Plan on €60 to €135 for an annual service, with €90 a common price, and more for a loaded cargo bike. Book spring services early, because lead times stretch exactly when everyone remembers their bike exists. Keep every receipt: insurers ask for lock and service paperwork at claim time. If your battery fades, read our battery repair vs replacement guide before buying a new pack.

Theft, locks and where to park it

Rotterdam’s theft numbers are the reason this section exists: 4,705 reported bike thefts in 2024, with e-bikes a favourite target of organised gangs. Recovery without help sits between 2% and 5%; with a working, certified track-and-trace system the ANWB figure our theft guide cites is about 80%. The stack that works is two ART-2-or-better locks (ART-3 is the sensible big-city standard, and a credible second lock costs €50 to €125), indoor or supervised parking where possible, and a tracker. A plug-in chain that clips into the ring lock doesn’t count as the second lock at ANWB or Kingpolis. At ANWB, ENRA and Kingpolis, a certified tracker becomes a requirement once the insured value reaches €4,500 (€3,500 for cargo bikes), which many premium bikes do. Picks are in our lock guide and GPS tracker guide, and the tiers are explained in our insurance guide.

The city helps. Around Centraal Station there are several municipal stallingen, and the municipality recommends parking and charging e-bikes in the underground one:

Lease, tax and the “subsidy” question

The trick with a company e-bike is tax, not a discount. An e-bike from your employer adds 7% of its recommended price to your taxable pay each year (the Belastingdienst’s fietsplan rules), which is about €5 to €7 a month in tax on a €2,500 bike depending on your bracket. On a gross-salary lease, the fee comes out of gross pay, so every €100 of lease costs you less than €100 in take-home pay. Put together, a €2,500 e-bike on an €80-a-month lease with service and theft cover costs roughly €48 to €57 a month net, bijtelling included. Buying the same bike privately works out at about €90 a month once insurance and servicing are counted, though that figure ignores what the bike is still worth afterwards.

That last point matters. Over three years our e-bike lease guide puts the lease at about €1,800 net with nothing left at the end, against about €1,850 for buying new with a bike worth around €1,100 afterwards. Leasing wins on cash flow and risk; buying wins if you keep the bike for six or seven years.

There’s also a trade. Once you’re on a company bike, you generally lose the tax-free kilometre allowance (€0.25 per km in 2026, up from €0.23) for cycling that commute, so run both numbers for your route. Our company e-bike scheme guide does the maths step by step. Your employer decides whether to offer a scheme, so ask HR first.

And no, there is no national purchase subsidy for private buyers in 2026. Our subsidy overview lists what is real. Studying at Erasmus or living here on a short contract? The international student e-bike guide and the best e-bikes for expats cover cheaper routes.

FAQs about e-bike shops in Rotterdam

How much does an e-bike cost in Rotterdam in 2026?

Rotterdam follows the national market. The average new e-bike in the Netherlands cost €2,872 in 2025. Budget hub-motor models run from about €900 to €1,800, mid-drive city and hybrid e-bikes from €1,800 to €3,000, and premium models from €3,000 to €5,500 or more. Electric cargo bikes start near €2,500, and most family models cost €4,900 to €6,300. Budget a second lock, insurance and a yearly service on top.

Can I test-ride an e-bike in Rotterdam without an appointment?

Often, yes. Mantel’s Rotterdam Superstore has an indoor test track where you can ride as many laps as you like, and Fietsenwinkel.nl offers free, no-obligation test rides on its Tenways bikes. Smaller shops may prefer a booking so the right size is ready, so phone ahead. Ride for at least 10 minutes, ideally 15 to 30, and try every assist level.

Is leasing an e-bike cheaper than buying one in Rotterdam?

On monthly cash flow, usually, if your employer offers a scheme. A €2,500 e-bike on an €80 gross lease with service and theft cover costs roughly €48 to €57 a month net, bijtelling included, against about €90 a month to buy privately. Over three years the totals end up close, because a bought bike keeps its resale value, and buying wins if you keep the bike for six or seven years.

The right e-bike shop in Rotterdam isn’t the one with the loudest sale banner. It’s the one that will still answer the phone in year four, read your fault code without sighing, and remind you to take the battery inside in December. Compare models in our e-bike category hub, read the guide to buying an electric bike in the Netherlands, watch the deals page for model-changeover discounts, and lock twice.
