Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your computer, phone or tablet when you visit it. They let the site remember things about your visit — like the contents of your shopping basket, your language preference, or how you found us — so your next visit (or even the rest of this one) works more smoothly.

Some cookies are set directly by ebykes.nl (“first-party cookies”). Others are set by services we use, such as analytics or payment providers (“third-party cookies”). This policy explains both.

Similar technologies — such as local storage, pixels and tracking scripts — are covered by this policy in the same way, even where the word “cookie” doesn’t technically apply.

ebykes.nl (insert full legal company name) is the data controller responsible for the cookies described in this policy and for the personal data collected through them.

Under Dutch and EU law, we need your permission before we can place most cookies on your device. This requirement comes from two pieces of legislation working together:

• The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — Regulation (EU) 2016/679, which governs how we may collect and use personal data, including data gathered through cookies.
• The Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet), Article 11.7a — the Dutch implementation of the EU’s ePrivacy Directive, which specifically requires clear, informed, active consent before non-essential cookies are placed on a visitor’s device.

Strictly necessary cookies are the one exception: we can use these without asking, because the website genuinely cannot function without them (for example, remembering the items in your basket as you move between pages).

We group every cookie on ebykes.nl into one of four categories. You can switch on or off each category except the first, which is always active.

Here’s the detailed breakdown, cookie by cookie. This table reflects a typical e-commerce setup — replace it with the results of your own cookie audit once your analytics, payment and marketing tools are finalised.

When you first visit ebykes.nl, a banner appears at the bottom of the screen before any non-essential cookie is set. It gives you three genuinely equal choices:

• Accept all — switches on every cookie category.
• Reject non-essential — keeps only the strictly necessary cookies active. This button is exactly as prominent and exactly as easy to click as “Accept all.”
• Customise — opens a panel where you can switch each category on or off individually, then save your choice.

No box is ever pre-ticked on your behalf. Once you’ve made a choice, we store it for 12 months so we don’t interrupt you again — and you can change it at any time by clicking the small cookie icon that stays in the bottom-left corner of every page.

Some cookies are placed by trusted third parties who help us run analytics, process payments, or deliver relevant advertising. Where one of these providers is based outside the European Economic Area (EEA) — for example, in the United States — any personal data transferred is protected using recognised safeguards, such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), an adequacy decision, or an equivalent legal mechanism.

Insert the full list of third-party processors you actually use here (e.g. your analytics provider, payment gateway, ad platforms, live chat tool), along with a link to each provider’s own privacy policy.

We store your cookie preference for 12 months from the date you make it, in line with guidance from the Dutch Data Protection Authority. After that, or whenever you clear your browser data, we’ll ask for your consent again. Individual cookie lifespans are listed in the table in Section 5.

Because cookies can involve personal data, you have the same rights here as you do over any other personal data we hold about you:

ebykes.nl is intended for visitors aged 16 and over, in line with the age of consent for online services set by the Netherlands under the GDPR. We don’t knowingly collect personal data from children younger than this through cookies or otherwise.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time — for example, when we add a new tool that sets cookies. Significant changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date at the top of this page, and where the change is material, we’ll ask for your consent again.
